Online Courses OVERVIEW

What are Online Courses Offered by CLC Network?

CLC Network offers online courses to middle school-aged students who are considered academically talented and highly motivated. Several years ago, at the urging of parents and school administrators, CLC Network developed a series of online courses offered to students whose school could not provide those courses. Our online offerings began with two courses and evolved to our present offering of six:

  • Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry
  • Honors English, 6th, 7th and 8th

In addition to offering courses to students who are enrolled in traditional schools, we offer these same courses to students who are home educated.

How are CLC Network Courses Designed?

CLC Network online courses are fully facilitated courses. Fully facilitated means that a teacher, certified (by the state of Michigan) to teach the content of the course, prepares and delivers the course in an online format. The teacher develops units of study within semesters that have specific beginning and end points. During the time frame of a particular unit, the teacher interacts with the students and the students interact with each other as they complete activities of the unit. All students complete a particular unit at the same time.

CLC Network online teachers develop multi-media curriculum and instructional methods in order to present concepts in a variety of ways. Our online teachers accommodate a variety of learning styles as they teach using video and audio clips, manipulatives and online simulations. The online courses receive high marks from students, families and schools.

CLC Network teachers deliver their course(s) in an asynchronous format using the secure learning management system, Moodle. Moodle provides a vibrant platform for engaged and meaningful learning.

How are CLC Network Online Courses Different?

CLC Network Online Courses are not correspondence or self-taught courses. Since they are fully facilitated, a certified instructor will be in regular contact with the student, answering questions, grading assignments, offering feedback on progress, tracking grades on quizzes and tests, and communicating with families. Students do not work independently, nor is there incentive to “race” through units in order to “get through” content as quickly as possible. Although our courses are rather fast-paced, our intention is to provide the opportunity to learn content deeply. We also emphasize interaction among learners and with teachers as together they explore new concepts engage with new learning.

"I loved my CLC Network online class. I learned a great deal and really enjoyed working on the projects with the other students. It was great to be able to bring my faith into my learning. Mrs. Zwiers was so nice. She made me feel really comfortable and I could go to her with any questions I had. I am going to tell all my friends to take this class!"
