ADMINISTRATOR INFORMATION

CLC Network offers online courses for middle school-aged students who are considered academically talented and highly motivated. These courses are intended to challenge students who can handle the rigors of in-depth studying, including enhanced pace and content treatment.

Our courses are aligned with state of Michigan content standards and are taught by Highly Qualified teachers who hold current State of Michigan teacher certification and endorsement to teach these courses. Our online teachers also are well trained to teach online and they participate in ongoing professional development intended to enhance their ability to teach online. CLC Network contracts with T3 consulting, a highly regarded consulting firm that focuses on assisting schools and other agencies to deliver exceptional online learning experiences.

Our courses are delivered asynchronously using the secure learning management system of Moodle. This means that students need not be online at the same time as other students who are taking the class. They complete assignments and work on the course tasks when it fits their schedule.

Our courses are fully facilitated by our teachers. Our courses are not self-taught or self-paced courses. CLC Network online teachers prepare units of study with specific beginning and ending times. They are available to answer questions for students, they coordinate online discussions with students and they hold office hours when they are available for “live” chat.

CLC Network online courses replace the courses students typically take during his/her school year. For example, if a student takes CLC Network’s 6th Grade Honors English, this course would replace the typical 6th grade English in which the student would be enrolled. In addition, most students who take our online courses work on the courses during the time the original course is scheduled during the day.

We believe it is important that the students’ home schools support their enrollment in our online classes. Students should feel supported as they work on an online course within the context of their daily requirements. In addition, we ask that home schools provide an in-school mentor who can help trouble shoot technological issues that might arise. We ask that parents coordinate with their home schools as they consider enrolling their students in one or more of our classes.

What benefit does this bring to your school? The CLC Network’s online classes broaden your school’s academic offerings without the cost of additional staff, classrooms, or textbooks. At the same time, they complement your current classroom learning by challenging highly motivated and academically talented students who are performing at or above grade level.

Students enrolled in CLC Network schools and who wish to enroll in an online course are asked to register through their local, CLC Network school. Please contact Phil Stegink (pstegink@clcnetwork.org) for details or with questions.

Home education students and students from Non-CLC Network schools must register through the online process located on the CLC Network website.

"This math class has definitely challenged me. Since there isn't a teacher right by me, it has taught me to work more independently. I have learned so much this year that will be valuable to me later on."
