CLC Network offers online courses designed to meet a variety of educational needs. Our courses are available for academically talented and highly motivated middle school-aged students and for high school schools students challenged by the demands of learning a world language.
We offer six courses for middle school-aged students and a new online Spanish course. Each course is fully aligned with State of Michigan content standards and is taught by a Highly Qualified teacher who holds current State of Michigan teacher certification and endorsement. Our online teachers are well trained to teach online and they participate in ongoing professional development intended to enhance their ability to teach online. CLC Network contracts with T-3 Consulting, a highly regarded consulting firm that assists schools and other agencies to deliver exceptional online learning experiences.
All of our courses are delivered asynchronously using Moodle, a secure Learning Management System. Students need not be online at the same time as other students taking a class. Each student completes assignments and works on course tasks at times that are convenient for them. Online teachers coordinate interaction with peers via discussion boards and shared activities. Our teachers are available to answer student questions via email or through discussion boards, and they offer office hours at which time they are available for “live” communication.
CLC Network teachers fully facilitate our online courses. Our teachers prepare units of study with specific beginning and ending times. Students progress through units as a class, completing each unit within an identified time frame, while accounting for individual learning styles. CLC Network online teachers develop an online learning community by coordinating online discussions among students and by providing opportunities for students to work together.
CLC Network online courses replace the courses students typically take during their school year. For example, if a student takes CLC Network’s 6th Grade Honors English, this course would replace the typical 6th grade English in which the student would be enrolled. Most students who take our online courses work on the courses during the time when the original course is scheduled.
We believe it is important that the students’ home schools support their enrollment in our online classes. Students should feel supported as they work on an online course within the context of their daily requirements. We ask that home schools provide an in-school mentor who can help trouble shoot technological issues that might arise. We ask that parents coordinate with their home schools as they consider enrolling their students in one or more of our classes.
What benefit does this bring to your school? CLC Network’s online classes broaden your school’s academic offerings without adding costs for staffing or classrooms. At the same time, they complement your current classroom learning opportunities by offering challenges to highly motivated and academically talented students and targeted courses to those students who struggle in a traditional high school language course.
Students enrolled in CLC Network schools and who wish to enroll in an online course are asked to register through their local CLC Network school. Please contact Phil Stegink (pstegink@clcnetwork.org) for additional details or with questions.
Home education students and students from Non-CLC Network schools must register through the online process located on the CLC Network website.
