CLC Network educational consultants collaborate with school personnel and families to develop personalized learning experiences for students who have more frequently identified, mild educational challenges. Consultants serve a wide variety of students, including those who have Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorders, and Emotional Impairments, as well as mild Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. We partner with school staff and families to identify learning issues that require remediation. Problem-solving processes are followed that may lead to planning of curriculum interventions, educational evaluations, and/or diagnostic profiles. The partnership can also include on-site assessment of the learning community.
We prepare Individualized Student Plans for students who learn in atypical ways. Our plans identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, and include a description of our remediation strategies developed around the student.

Accommodation Plans are prepared for students who have been identified with a mild disability and who require adjustments to their educational experiences. Accommodations typically suggest an alteration of the presentation of teacher- led information, the way in which a student engages with that information, or the way in which a student expresses that which he/she has learned. Accommodations are identified based on a learning profile developed for each individual student.

Section 504 of the Civil Rights code requires recipients of federal funds to provide students with identified disabilities appropriate educational services designed to meet their individual needs. An appropriate education for a student with a disability under the Section 504 regulations could consist of education in general classrooms with some supplementary and related services added.

“Positive Behavior Support is stating in positive terms what we want students to do … not in punishing behaviors we don’t want them to do.” (Bernard Travnkar). Positive Behavior Support seeks to change the learning community milieu/culture from punitive/shame-based consequences to building a positive behavioral culture of expectations beginning with pre-school and continuing through high school.

Transition plans can be an important bridge between a student’s school career and his/her life beyond K-12 schooling. Often, students who have a disability are uniquely challenged by imagining what the future might hold for them, as well as how they might reach a future goal. Transition plans, facilitated by knowledgeable professionals, can help students imagine and access the future.
