Education that is Inclusive

The CLC Network is committed to helping schools provide educational experiences that include all students. Over 1,800 students who face a wide range of educational challenges are assisted by our Educational Services division in CLC Network member schools. Working in cooperation with local school staff, our educational consultants provide personalized educational programs and plans for students experiencing disabilities or gifts of motivation and cognition (the Academically Talented).

In partnership with member schools, CLC Network can integrate into the full life of the school community. Our educational consultants assist in the creation of appropriate learning opportunities designed to develop each student's gifts. We can facilitate the development of an education plan to ensure that academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional needs are addressed for each child. Both special education and general education settings are used to carry out the goals in each individual student plan.

Philosophy

The CLC Network employs an inclusion philosophy with regard to educational programs. This means that students will be involved with both general education classrooms and special instructional settings. Within the CLC Network, all students are viewed first as members of the school in which they are enrolled and the general education classroom to which they are assigned. The CLC Network staff support students by working with general education teachers to provide instruction tailored to individual student needs.

How We Think About Students

  • First, we think that all students are unique learners, packaged with gifts that might be evident as well as gifts that might be waiting to be uncovered.
  • Second, we think that it is critically important that we help schools prepare students to be responsible women and men in their community.
  • Third, we think that all students can learn - some very differently, but all can learn.
  • Fourth, we think that all students want to learn, in spite of what it might look like on the outside.
  • Fifth, we think that one-size-fits-all education is not an appropriate model for teaching students with differing gifts.

Model

The CLC Network is committed to implementation of a Response to Intervention (RtI) model in its service to member schools. This implies that decisions made regarding educational programs, plans and placements are based on a thorough understanding of the gifts and challenges faced by students. In addition, our commitment to RtI means that we review progress of students on a regular basis to determine when a change in program or service is needed.

"The CLC Network has helped us meet the needs of more students at Rock Valley Christian School.  We now have a plan for students with special needs that constantly is reviewed and updated.  One of the most exciting parts is that this plan does not start over with a new teacher each school year, instead it continues and the new teacher approaches the new school year with the know how of what has worked and the expertise on how to get it done!."
